Frequently asked questions

How many credits can my student receive for participation?

Students can receive up to 4 foreign language credits for the Immersion Programs. Credit breakdowns are as follows: - 1 year of language through Bon Voyage World Languages Academy- 1 credit - 1 credit for the 2 week Immersion Programs in Europe or 10 Day Senegal - 2 credits for the 4 week Immersion Programs in Europe - 1 credit for Global Citizenship Education Class- can be a foreign language credit or elective credit. They can get 1 elective credit for the Student Globetrotter Programs. If the student opts to take a language with the program that will result in an additional credit for World Languages.

I am a parent- can I travel with my child?

Our student programs are for youth ages 11-18. You are welcome to register in our Globetrotter Programs if you want to travel with your child. Some of the Globetrotter programs run at the same time as the Student programs.

Can we book our own airfare?

No. We have a longstanding and positive relationship with Delta Airlines and their partners. We book airfare to keep our groups together and ensure that students are safe during travel. We book our students with our chaperones so there is supervision and safety every step of the way.

How are the adult staff and host families vetted?

Your child's safety is of utmost importance. We background check all of our travel staff at LW5S. Additionally, our travel staff are usually fellow teachers or language education students which means they have been fully vetted and background checked by the state departments of education. Our travel partners do the same for all of their staff and host families. Further, Elizabeth Porter travels each year to all of our European and African partners to personally place students in host families and visit host homes to ensure the absolute comfort and safety of our students.

Do you plan educational travel experiences for private groups?

Yes! Elizabeth is very experienced at organizing customized educational travel experiences for private groups with our travel partners. We must have a minimum of 10 participants. We can work with dates that work for your group however please note that we do not travel to Senegal between mid April and Mid October. Some of our past customized travel experiences have included: - Family groups - Church groups - School groups - Homeschool groups - Professionals (teachers, business leadership, etc) We can do programs in the target language or cultural experiences in English. If you would like to organize a private group you can set up a free consult by clicking this link- http://www.lw5steachers.com/bookings-checkout/teacher-group-leader-consult-for-groups

If we choose not to travel, do we get a refund?

No. We have a strict no refund policy. Our travel partners do not refund and therefore we cannot refund. We ask that your student is absolutely certain they are ready to participate in this program before registering. If we cancel for some reason (such as due to COVID), we will postpone until the next set of dates.

Is Senegal Safe?

YES! Senegal is well known for being the safest country in Africa! Senegal is a country that has relatively low levels of crime and disease and its population is renowned for its generosity! Senegal enjoys a stable democracy and religious harmony amongst its citizens. They are known as being the nation of "Teranga" which means "hospitality" in the Wolof language.

Why are the student programs more expensive than the Globetrotter Programs when the itineraries and dates are similar?

The student programs are more expensive because we are accounting for the extra staff needed to chaperone and supervise students. The Globetrotter programs are designed for adults and adults traveling with children so we do not need the extra supervision. The student programs also require some additional administrative staff.

Is Morocco Safe?

Yes! Morocco is very safe and we travel with knowledgeable professional guides the entire way. We would never take our students anywhere we do not feel is safe.

What happens if the program doesn't meet the minimum required number for the group?

If we don't have at least six students traveling, we will give the registered students the option to change to another program or travel the following year. Our immersion programs do not have to meet the minimum of six to happen but our Globetrotter programs need six.

TESTIMONIALS

My immersion program in France was the best thing I have ever done.  When you see life outside your country you gain an understanding of the world as a whole. I learned so much French in the time I was there and it was definitely more than I thought I would have!  I would go back to the program in a second if I could!  Everyone should do this!

Ally

This program is an incredible experience. I learned French, made friends from all over the world, and challenged myself in new ways. I left France longing to return someday soon, I will always cherish the memories I made there.

Audrey

This trip is an amazing way to learn about and experience an amazing culture and see beautiful places, while simultaneously soaking up the language.  You get to meet lots of amazing people from all over and have unforgettable experiences. You will remember these few weeks for the rest of your life.
